If you have received an email from UPS regarding “Digital Certificate Changes” and are wondering whether this affects your integration, please read the following technical guide.
Do you need to take action?
UPS is updating its API security certificates to DigiCert. Whether you need to make changes depends entirely on your server configuration.
How it works?
Our plugin does not store these security certificates locally. Instead, it relies on the security tools and libraries (such as OpenSSL) already installed and managed on your web server.
Possible Scenarios
- Scenario A: Your server is up to date Most modern servers already recognize DigiCert as a trusted authority. If your server is current, the transition will be seamless, and you do not need to take any action.
- Scenario B: Your server is older or restricted If your server is outdated or has a restricted trust store that does not include the DigiCert certificate, the connection to UPS API will fail immediately once UPS completes the switch.
Recommended Action Plan
Since this requirement must be handled at the server level (not within the plugin settings), we strongly recommend contacting your hosting provider or server administrator.
You can send them the following request:
“UPS is changing its API certificates to DigiCert. Can you please confirm that our server has the DigiCert certificate installed in its trusted root store so our shipping integration isn’t interrupted?”
Next Steps
- If your provider confirms the certificate is present, no further action is required.
- If your provider confirms it is missing, they will need to update the server’s root trust store to ensure continued service.
