Rates discrepancy
If you suspect that the UPS rates displayed in your WooCommerce store do not match the official UPS rates, please follow the steps below to verify and troubleshoot the issue.
Verification
Before you assume there’s a problem with the plugin, it’s always worth verifying if the rates truly don’t match.
Occasionally UPS applies different services, surcharges, or packaging rules that can make the cost look higher or lower than expected.
Comparing your WooCommerce results with the official UPS Calculator is the quickest way to confirm whether there’s an actual discrepancy.
1. How to verify Shipments with UPS Rates Calculator?
- Log in to the UPS online calculator: https://wwwapps.ups.com/ctc/request?loc=en_US/
- Recreate the exact same shipment that you are attempting to set up in your WooCommerce store.
- Ensure that you are logged in and that the shipment details, particularly the dimensions and weight, match exactly what you have entered in WooCommerce.
Important: Keep in mind that carrier live rates calculators, including UPS, work based on estimation. Small differences in how parcels are measured or rounded may occur, so rate deviations of about 10–15% are generally considered normal.
Troubleshooting
If you’ve already verified the rates using the UPS Calculator and there are still significant differences between what you see in WooCommerce and the official UPS rates, here’s what you can do next:
2. Check for UPS Account Settings:
- Do you have a UPS account with Negotiaded Rates or Simple Rate? If so, have you enabled these in the UPS plugin settings?
- Verify that the dimensions and weights of your items are entered correctly in both WooCommerce and the UPS Rates Calculator.
Moreover, please review and adjust the following plugin settings, as they may affect the rates shown:
Rates Adjustments
- Negotiated Rates
- PRO Simple Rate
- Insurance
- Pickup Type
- PRO Destination Address Type
- PRO Delivery Confirmation
- PRO Handling Fees
- PRO Parcel Packing Method
- Parcel Packing Method – Pack into custom boxes – how the fitting algorithm works
These settings can significantly impact the final shipping rates. It’s recommended to configure them carefully so that the values displayed in WooCommerce align as closely as possible with the official UPS calculators.
