SGL Surrey Gas & Leisure

Case study - sticky notes

SGL Surrey Gas & Leisure - partner in the business focused on gas and non-gas products

Established in 2017. SGL is focused on selling gas bottles and non-gas products. Formerly, the company offered payment by card on delivery. For now, the SGL started online payments and they launched a webstore. The shipment is delivered only to the UK customers due to several reasons, like tips of the products. Traveling with gas products can be challenging due to, for instance, having proper eligibilities. The company delivers some specific products by themselves, but others with the help of couriers and post.

Starting point: Questions without answers

SGL met with Octolize in a significant moment – while entering into WooCommerce and opening a WooCommerce store. In this case, the following questions arose:

  1. What shipping plugin to choose?
  2. How to manage the shipping scenario costs?
  3. How to distinguish shipping between gas and non gas products?
  4. How to configure shipping per different postal codes across the United Kingdom?
  5. How to configure free shipping for specific cases?

Key pillar problems

01

Translating a very complex logistics model into WooCommerce shipping rules.

Default WooCommerce and simple plugins can’t handle this clearly – methods conflict, exclusions are difficult to set up, and the hardest stage is configuring this advanced scenario with all the product rules.

02

Lack of technical skills and chaos in choosing the right plugin.

There is no simple, hand-holding solution and no clear messaging like “this plugin is for your case”, which slows decisions, creates frustration, and increases the risk of choosing the wrong tools.

03

Lack of simple, practical materials and support.

There are no onboarding materials or processes in the format that they understand (video, simple examples, guided setup, human help), so configuration takes longer and is done in a trial-and-error, “let’s just try this and that” way.

From fundamentals to implemented solution

01

Shipping scenario: Understanding of client’s needs and requirements

The first step was to familiarize with all the locations that the SGL Surrey Gas & Leisure is sending products to. After that, it was crucial to get to know what types of products the company sells – Gas and non-gas products, and to which locations particular ones. The last, but not least, was to become acquainted with the shipping rates of exact products.

02

Choosing the right product: To implement the solution, Flexible Shipping PRO was needed

Although SGL Surrey Gas & Leisure purchased the Flexible Shipping PRO before contacting Octolize, we have confirmed that it was the right product for their requirements. In this case, chatting with AI online, before reaching out to us directly, passed muster.

03

Online meeting with the client: To have all doubts resolved

We decided to offer an online meeting, where we would finally discuss all shipping scenario requirements to propose a final solution.

04

Implementing a solution: setting up shipping scenario

Firstly, it was necessary to configure proper shipping zones. The shipping zones were divided into proper zip codes of the United Kingdom’s locations. After that, in each of the shipping zones, a flexible shipping method has been created with proper rules. These rules included usage of Shipping class with Weight condition. Additionally, it was necessary to utilize Special actions that Flexible Shipping PRO offers, which is Stop for example.
